In September 2001 business partners Nick James and Peter Moginie founded Moginie James, opening our first branch, Roath in Albany Road.
The determined duo worked tirelessly long days, seven days a week to make the company a success. Nick even borrowed a car to complete home viewings for the first six months as a way to minimise costs.
Within 18 months a second branch was opened, located in Cathays, which was dedicated to the lettings side of the business. By 2007 further branches were opened in Cyncoed and Cardiff Bay, and in 2013 Moginie James was voted ‘Best Small Chain Estate Agents in the UK’ at the esteemed Estate Agent Awards.
In 2014 we opened our fifth branch, based in Pontcanna, while in the same year were named ‘Cardiff Estate Agent of the Year’ in the prestigious Cardiff Life Awards.
On top of a redevelopment of the brand, which including the creation of our super branches by merging our Cathays branch with our Roath branch and our Cardiff Bay branch with our Pontcanna branch, 2016 also saw departments for Auctions as well as Land and New Homes introduced into the business. All the while, Moginie James ranked in the top 1% of all Estate Agents in the UK based on customer service.
2017 saw the company working tirelessly to introduce new and innovative functionality, of particular mention is our digital booking system, which would allow potential buyers and contract-holders to book their viewings straight into our diary, at their convenience, 24/7. This innovation was an incredible leap forward, with Moginie James being the only high street agency in Cardiff to offer such a tool which serves to benefit vendors and landlords.
Above and beyond this, 2017 saw Moginie James as the most successful independent Estate Agency having sold more properties in the entirety of Cardiff than any other agency in the same category… by a long way.
In 2018 we introduced a successful online system allowing potential buyers to book viewings directly into our agent's diaries.
2020 has seen the biggest change for Moginie James so far, we are delighted to now be apart of the Leaders Romans Group. Our highly prominent reputation as Moginie James means that we will retain our brand and continue to offer an exceptional service.
Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG)
At Moginie James, Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) are responsibilities we take very seriously. As part of the Leaders Romans Group, we want to be transparent to our clients about the way we do things as a company.
One of the key areas that we are heavily invested in is sustainability and our impact on the environment. We have pledged to be carbon neutral by 2030. To achieve this, we have made many changes across the business with more to come. These include:

- Encouraging remote working where feasible
- Going paperless where possible
- Implementing a zero to landfill strategy.

Our staff are at the heart of everything we do. We work hard to ensure they feel supported, providing wellbeing webinars, meditation sessions, mental health first aiders, and an employee assistance programme.
It’s of the utmost importance to us that equality, diversity, and inclusion are at the forefront of everyone’s minds. We have an internal training course on this which all staff have to take. Many of our agency branches support charities local to them, and at Head Office we make a large local food bank donation every year. Our chosen charity is MacMillan Cancer Support, and teams across the business are fundraising in different ways to raise as much money as possible.
