The 20 Features That Will Sell Your Home

Wed 14 Aug 2019

In our experience, home buyers always have a list of must-haves when beginning their property search, whether it's a physical list or a list in their mind.

Sometimes these lists are long and other times they consist of just one feature (such as school catchment).
Sometimes these lists are flexible and other times they are set in stone.
Sometimes these lists are clear in people’s minds from the offset and other times it takes a while to pinpoint.

But we all have a list.

So, for this week’s property journal, we decided to look at the 20 most sought-after features for UK homebuyers,
as revealed in a study by Go Compare Home Insurance.

Top of the list of property 'must-haves' is central heating, double glazing, home security and a garden,
while a reliable broadband connection has moved up into the top 5 home essentials from 8th last year.

A clear mobile signal and a good energy efficiency rating are both in the top 10 for the first time,
while friendly neighbours slip out of the top 10 to 12th.

At the other end of the spectrum, fewer buyers considered a conservatory (19%), wood floors (13%), good local schools (13%),
open plan living spaces (9%) and period features (5%) a high-priority in a new home, with all of them failing to make the top 20.
