Convert existing contracts

Occupation Contracts can start verbally. However, you must issue a written statement of the contract to all contract holders. This will replace the occupation contract or licence agreement.

You can repossess an abandoned home without a court order after serving a four-week notice.

Understand new notice periods for possession

  • No-fault notice for periodic standard contracts is now a minimum of six months. It can’t be served in the first six months of occupation.
  • No notice period for anti-social behaviour, and you can apply to the court directly after giving notice.
  • Provide 14 days' notice for serious rent arrears of 8 weeks
  • One month's notice is required for other breaches of contract.
